GREENING BEESTON GROWING FOOD LOCALLY
Our aim is to show how to grow food locally, which then has no carbon footprint. We can only grow a small amount of food in the planters themselves but we hope to inspire people to grow food in their own gaedens, planters or window boxes. Even a small window box can provide a supply of herbs.
To find recipes using food that is in season look under: Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.

CHILWELL ROAD PLANTERS
Broxtowe Borough Council has kindly allowed us to use three of their planters near the tram stop in Chilwell Road to grow some food plants. People are welcome to take leaves, flowers or seeds, as appropriate.
Pictures taken in 2019:
Planter 1 has broad beans, now over, and thyme now flowering providing late forage for pollinators. Also a nasturtium which has edible flowers and seeds.
Planter 2 has strawberries and sage. People are welcome to snip off runners if they want strawberries in their garden or windowsill. Just peg down on soil with a hairclip or opened out paper clip.
Planter 3 has a bay tree (leaves can be used to add flavour) and pansies (edible flowers which look pretty in a salad or on a cake).
